Art Installation

font-size:

The theme of the public art installation of the Judges Academy is Mirror World, a double entendre with Realm in Chinese, which symbolizes a high level of noble state. What the judicial personnel pursue is the moral realm of fairness and justice, which echoes the core mission of the Judges Academy. The Academy aims to develop judges’ character of calmness, perseverance, and tolerance and to help judges be internalized with humanistic, diverse values, and to deepen their professional knowledge. Ultimately, the realm of the truth, the goodness, and the beauty in trial are pursued.

Learning Never Ends

The grand art installation located at the entry of Judges Academy, which is named “Learning Never Ends”, is a remarkable article made by Xunzi, a Confucian Philosopher. Composing the spirit and the mission of Judges Academy, which provides places and sources to encourage judges to keep learning, “Learning Never Ends” is the best motto corresponding to the wills of knowledge accumulation. Artist Chen Chun-Hao used grain nails to express calligraphy art of Artist Chang-hu Lin. The way the nails drilled into the wall is the same as the way people do research and studies. People have to keep “drilling” hard into the undiscovered area of knowledge, or only step-around.

The Truth, the Goodness and the Beauty

Entering the building from the front door of the Academy, a white circle composed of a twisting string must take over your sight and attention. The artist, Hsu Zhong-Jieh, expresses the highest ideological realm of humans, “The Truth, The Goodness, and The Beauty”, with numerous triangular LED boards. He integrates the western languages of art, Three Goddess, and the ancient and mysterious nature figure, Irish Clover Totem, into this technological artwork.

The LED boards sparkle in Red, Green and Blue light, representing the True, the Good and the Beautiful respectively, and different colors of lights flow surrounding each other. When the three colors overlap, they turn into a pure and flawless white, representing the most beautiful realm of human beings, and corresponding to the spirit of Judges Academy –– pursuing a perfect world with justice.

Suspended Mirrors

In Chinese, people describe an impartial judge as a “suspending clear mirror”, which means that an impartial judge is like a clear and clean mirror that can reflect the truth directly without any forgery and is never interfered with by other’s bribery or knees down on others power.

These mirrors suspend above the stairs with splendid sunshine spilling out from windows, making passers to introspect themselves from the reflection of mirrors, to reexamine themselves and to remind them the core faith of being legal workers.

This outstanding artwork is awarded “The Fifth Public Installation Award” by the Ministry of Culture.
